Nagpur’s young boxers delivered a remarkable performance at the Maharashtra State First Sub-Junior, Cadet and Cub Boys and Girls Boxing Championship 2026, securing a total of nine medals, including four gold and five bronze, and bringing pride to the district.
The Nagpur contingent displayed exceptional skill, determination and resilience throughout the championship, emerging as one of the top-performing teams in the state-level tournament.
Leading the gold-medal charge was Shreyash Deshmukh, who dominated the 36-38 kg category to claim the top honour. In the Cadet Girls section, Avika Savalakhe captured gold in the 36-38 kg category, while Garima Singh emerged victorious in the 48-50 kg division.
Garima’s consistent and outstanding performances throughout the competition earned her the coveted Best Boxer Award in the Cadet Girls category, making her one of the standout performers of the championship.
Further strengthening Nagpur’s gold-medal tally, Navanya Savalakhe secured first place in the 46-49 kg category. Her impressive display also earned her the Best Emerging Boxer Award, recognising her promising talent and future potential.
Nagpur’s success extended beyond the gold medals, with five boxers claiming bronze. Disha Thakur secured third place in the Cub Girls 34-36 kg category, while Dishan Shirley won bronze in the Cub Boys 32-34 kg division. Trishna Kadam added another medal in the Sub-Junior Girls 40-43 kg category, and Heeba Khan finished among the top contenders in the Girls Above 70 kg category. Hridyansh Janbandhu completed the medal tally with a bronze medal in the Sub-Junior Boys Above 70 kg category.
The team’s impressive achievement was guided by coaches Ganesh Purohit, Raunak Khambalkar and Yogesh Mishra, whose dedicated training and mentorship played a key role in the athletes’ success.
The performance has drawn praise from sports enthusiasts, boxing followers and sports administrators, who congratulated the players and coaching staff for their outstanding efforts.
The championship results reflect the growing strength of boxing in Nagpur and highlight the emergence of a talented new generation of boxers capable of achieving success at higher levels in the years ahead.
