While yoga is commonly practised in open spaces, parks, or atop scenic locations, an Amravati police officer has taken the ancient discipline to an entirely new level—under water. Through a remarkable blend of fitness, concentration, and endurance, Head Constable Pravin Dadarao Akhre has earned national recognition for his extraordinary underwater yoga achievements.
Akhre first entered the record books on May 28, 2023, when he successfully performed more than 50 yoga asanas while floating on water for 22 minutes and 53 seconds. The feat secured him a place in the India Book of Records.
He went on to achieve another milestone on September 10, 2023, by remaining completely motionless in water at a depth of 11 feet for 1 hour and 2 minutes. The accomplishment was recognised by both the Asia Book of Records and the India Book of Records.
Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Akhre performed underwater yoga for 2 minutes and 30 seconds on July 21, 2024. Later, on Independence Day 2024, he showcased exceptional breath control and determination by staying underwater for 90 seconds while holding the Indian national flag.
Apart from his record-breaking yoga feats, Akhre has also made significant contributions to public service. Between 2012 and 2019, he was actively involved in flood management and search-and-rescue operations, during which he helped recover 78 bodies and rescued 55 stranded individuals.
Ahead of International Yoga Day, senior officials of the Amravati Police Commissionerate praised Akhre’s dedication and unique achievements. Police Commissioner Rakesh Ola described underwater yoga as an exceptional accomplishment that reflects remarkable commitment and skill. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramesh Dhumal said Akhre’s discipline and perseverance serve as a source of inspiration for the entire police force.
