Less than a week after operations at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur were taken over by GMR Airports, flight connectivity is set to improve with the restoration of three Air India services to Mumbai and Delhi.
Despite the monsoon season, which is typically a lean period for air travel when airlines reduce operations, Air India has decided to reinstate services on two of Nagpur’s busiest routes.
The airline had suspended its flights between Nagpur-Mumbai and Nagpur-Delhi from June 1. However, the Delhi service will resume from August 1, while flights to Mumbai will restart from August 15.
The suspension of Air India’s daily services on both routes had caused inconvenience to passengers, as demand for travel to Mumbai and Delhi remains consistently high. Frequent flyers and business travellers had been seeking an early restoration of these services.
From August 1, Air India will restart its morning flight between Nagpur and Delhi, improving connectivity for passengers travelling to the national capital. Both Air India and IndiGo currently operate on the route, but Air India’s morning service had been withdrawn due to seasonal demand.
The resumption of these flights is also expected to intensify competition among airlines, which could help moderate airfares. Ticket prices have remained high in recent weeks due to increased Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) costs and disruptions linked to the Iran crisis.
Air India Express will also restore its morning Nagpur-Bengaluru service from August 1. However, IndiGo has reduced its operations on the route, leaving only three flights in each direction between the two cities.
Meanwhile, Air India will resume its Nagpur-Mumbai services from August 15, restoring both morning and late-night flights. The return of these services is expected to provide passengers with greater flexibility on one of Nagpur’s busiest domestic routes and improve connectivity with the country’s financial capital.
