The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Tuesday approved a policy to directly manage all upcoming and newly commissioned ESI hospitals, a move aimed at ensuring uniform standards of healthcare, improved efficiency and better quality of services across its network.
The decision was taken at the 198th meeting of ESIC, chaired by Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi, according to an official statement issued by the Labour Ministry.
During the meeting, the Corporation approved several measures to strengthen ESIC’s healthcare infrastructure, expand medical education and improve organisational efficiency and service delivery.
Under the new policy, all future and newly commissioned ESI hospitals will be operated directly by ESIC. However, hospitals currently managed by state governments and undergoing reconstruction or upgradation will continue under state control unless the respective state government opts to transfer their management to ESIC.
The Corporation also approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Ayush and ESIC to integrate Ayush services into the ESI healthcare system. The partnership aims to promote holistic healthcare, strengthen Ayush services within ESIC facilities, build institutional capacity and address occupational as well as lifestyle-related health issues through accessible and integrated care.
