The Maharashtra government issued a notification on Monday implementing a new organisational structure and service recruitment rules for the Revenue Department, marking what Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule called a historic overhaul of the department after nearly 50 years. Briefing reporters on Tuesday, he said the state cabinet had approved the new structure and recruitment rules, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s endorsement, and that this is the first change to the department’s recruitment rules since 1977.
Bawankule said the revamp would resolve long-pending issues in promotions and recruitment for posts ranging from Naib Tehsildar to Additional Collector, easing administrative bottlenecks within the department.
On complaints of irregularities involving Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) officials and FSI allegations, Bawankule said officials who have remained posted at the same location for years would be investigated if complaints are received, with Revenue-related complaints probed by him personally and urban development-related ones by Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
On the Delhi NEET paper-leak protests, he said the agitation was meant to mislead the public and incite youth, adding that stone-pelting materials were found at the Jantar Mantar protest site and those seeking to defame the government are under investigation.
