The Maharashtra Government has launched the application process for its Special Merit Award and Scholarship Scheme for the 2025-26 academic year, offering financial assistance to meritorious children of former servicemen and war widows.
Eligible beneficiaries can submit their applications to their respective District Sainik Welfare Offices on or before September 15, 2026.
As part of the scheme, students who scored 90 per cent or above in the Class 10 examination or 85 per cent or above in the Class 12 examination during the 2025-26 academic year will be considered for a one-time merit award of Rs 20,000 or Rs 50,000. Those who secured a position among the top 10 rank holders in the state merit list are also eligible for the award.
In addition to the merit awards, the government is providing scholarships to students from the same category who obtained 60 per cent or higher in their Class 10 or Class 12 examinations. Applicants must submit the prescribed application form along with supporting documents before the deadline.
Officials said the initiative is intended to reward academic excellence and provide financial support to children of defence personnel, enabling them to continue their education without financial constraints.
In-charge District Sainik Welfare Officer Chandrakant Narayan Phatak appealed to all eligible former servicemen, war widows and their children to apply within the stipulated period and ensure that their applications are complete in all respects to avoid rejection.
