Maintenance and repair contractors working for the Nagpur Circle of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) have announced an indefinite work suspension from July 1, 2026, after submitting a final representation to the Chief Engineer over long-pending payments and unresolved contractual issues.
According to the Contractors’ Association, a substantial amount of payments for maintenance and repair works carried out between 2024 and 2026 remains unpaid. The association stated that it had earlier postponed its proposed agitation after receiving positive assurances from the Chief Engineer during a meeting.
However, despite those assurances, no funds have been released and no concrete action has been taken, leaving contractors in severe financial distress.
The association has demanded immediate clearance of all pending bills, prompt approval of pending purchase orders, and correction of rate discrepancies in tenders related to preventive maintenance and Distribution Transformer Centre (DTC) replacement by implementing revised rates.
The contractors further warned that during the work suspension period, they would not be responsible for any power outages, technical failures, system breakdowns, or any resulting technical, financial, or operational consequences. They have urged the MSEDCL administration to take an immediate and positive decision to resolve the issue and avert disruption to electricity maintenance services across the Nagpur Circle.
