A 20-year-old letter that had gone missing from the Zilla Parishad education department’s records — and had stalled the seniority list process for hundreds of primary teachers — has finally been traced, clearing the way for the final list to be issued.
The letter, issued on January 27, 2004 by a room officer in the Rural Development and Water Conservation department to the Osmanabad Zilla Parishad CEO, laid down educational eligibility norms for teacher seniority. It was extended to all district parishads on November 18, 2006. In Nagpur ZP, however, the letter could not be located, and officials cited its absence to repeatedly stall the seniority process.
The education department had published a provisional seniority list on September 19, 2025, but the final list remained pending 20 months on. A three-member committee formed to examine the matter had maintained that a final list could not be issued without the original letter, even as an eligible-teachers list approved on February 14, 2024 remained unresolved.
The administration has now traced the missing document, and teacher unions have demanded the final seniority list be notified immediately.
