Reinforcing the connection between community health and environmental sustainability, the Department of Community Medicine, Datta Meghe Medical College (DMMC), Wanadongri, Nagpur, organized a tree plantation drive at Mangrul village, Taluka Hingna, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, under the Family Adoption Programme (FAP), a National Medical Commission-mandated initiative for MBBS students.
The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation from first-year MBBS students, interns, and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, who joined hands to plant indigenous saplings and promote environmental stewardship within the adopted village.
As part of the plantation drive, native tree species including Neem, Kadam, and Vad (Banyan) were planted. These species are well suited to the local ecosystem and play a vital role in enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, conserving soil, and supporting long-term ecological sustainability.
The initiative was conducted under the guidance of faculty members and coordinators from the Department of Community Medicine. The activity was actively coordinated by Mr. Ashutosh, Ms. Samarpita Mukherjee, Dr. Harshal Mendhe, Dr. Kamraan Sheikh, Dr. Prithvi Petkar, and Dr. Naresh Gill, along with Vikram Anil Badad (Police Patil) and Dnyeshwar Mahadev Pawar (Sarpanch), whose collective efforts ensured the successful execution of the programme.
The Satsang Foundation, Nagpur Kendra, extended valuable support by providing technical expertise in the selection of suitable indigenous species and facilitating the availability of saplings for the plantation drive.
Appreciating the initiative, Dr. Nilesh Agrawal, Chief Operating Officer, said, “Through such collective efforts, we are gradually progressing from the concept of adopted families to the broader vision of an adopted village, ensuring holistic and sustainable community development.”
The tree plantation drive reflected the institution’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible future healthcare professionals. The active involvement of students highlighted their growing awareness of environmental conservation and their dedication to serving communities beyond clinical settings. The programme successfully combined the objectives of community engagement, public health awareness, and environmental protection, reinforcing the message that a healthier environment is fundamental to a healthier society.
