Railway passengers have been advised to carry the original digital ticket on the ‘Rail One’ app while travelling, as screenshots, photographs, PDF copies or tickets shared through WhatsApp and other messaging platforms will no longer be accepted as valid proof of travel during ticket checking.
The clarification comes after a recent incident in which a passenger was fined for producing a WhatsApp screenshot instead of the original digital ticket during inspection.
According to the revised guidelines, passengers must carry the same mobile handset that was used to book the ticket, as the digital ticket will be considered valid only when displayed on the registered device through the ‘Rail One’ app.
The Railways has also reiterated that digital unreserved (general) tickets must be purchased before the train departs from the boarding station. Tickets booked after the departure of the train will not be treated as valid for travel.
The South East Central Railway (SECR) has further clarified through a post on X that unreserved tickets booked through the ‘Rail One’ app will be valid only on the registered mobile phone used at the time of booking.
Passengers have therefore been advised to carry the original mobile handset along with a valid photo identity card while undertaking their journey.
