Congress corporator Wasim Khan from Mominpura was among six persons booked by the Tahsil Police for allegedly throwing currency notes during the 104th Urs sandal procession of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Rahmat Ali, causing a rush among devotees, obstructing traffic and allegedly violating police prohibitory orders.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 4:50 pm on July 14 near Seva Sadan Chowk in central Nagpur during the traditional sandal procession. Police alleged that the accused threw currency notes from a vehicle and while walking in the procession, leading to a scramble among people, disrupting traffic movement and creating a potential risk to public safety.
The police further stated that officers on duty repeatedly instructed the accused to stop throwing currency notes. They were also asked to get down from the vehicle as low-hanging electric wires posed a safety hazard.
However, the accused allegedly ignored the warnings and continued the procession in violation of the police directions. Based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Anil Madavi on behalf of Tahsil Police Station, an FIR has been registered under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act and Sections 125 and 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The six accused named in the FIR are Wasim Khan, Latif Khan, Naved Bhai (Vice President of Naujawan Sadar Committee), Gani Khan, Ayan Khan, and Aman Khan. Police have taken up further investigation into the case.
