Singer Jyotirmayee Nayak from Odisha was crowned the winner of Indian Idol Season 16 during the grand finale aired on Sunday, becoming the first contestant from the state to win the popular singing reality show. She received the winner’s trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh after emerging victorious following a 10-month-long competition.
Jyotirmayee defeated fellow finalists Tanishk Shukla, Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer Singh, Myscmme Bosu and Suhail Sufi to lift the coveted title. Tanishk Shukla finished as the runner-up. Throughout the season, Jyotirmayee impressed the judges and viewers with her consistent performances and powerful vocals, earning widespread praise.
Reacting to her victory, an emotional Jyotirmayee described the win as a life-changing moment.
“Winning Indian Idol Season 16 feels absolutely surreal. From walking into the auditions with nothing but a dream to standing here as the winner, this journey has truly been life-changing. Every performance challenged me to become a better singer, performer and person, and I’ll always cherish everything I’ve learnt along the way,” she said after the finale.
The 24-year-old singer from Bhubaneswar has now scripted history as the first contestant from Odisha to claim the Indian Idol crown. Her victory has been widely celebrated in the state, with fans and well-wishers congratulating her on social media.
In post-finale interviews, Jyotirmayee said she hopes to build a career as a Bollywood playback singer and expressed her desire to lend her voice to actors such as Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone.
Judged by Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal Dadlani and Badshah, Indian Idol Season 16 concluded after months of competition, marking another successful season of one of Indian television’s longest-running singing reality shows.
