The 5-aside league is based on the all India Football Federation’s Baby League model, wherein 8 come together to compete against each in a two legged league format. The tournament is a month long activity which is divided into 4 different weeks. The first week’s league is scheduled for February 1 and 2nd 2019 which has kicked off at slum soccer’s Astro Turf ground in collaboration with WIFA (Western India Football Federation). The tournament has been organised in order to create competitive football eco systems at the grassroots football and to arouse interest amongst young players of schools from Northern Nagpur.
On the first day the ground was buzzing with so much excitement and activities as the participating 8 schools came together with 3 different age categories such as U-8, U-10 and U-12 from the Northern Nagpur. All the teams have played each other 4 times today. Throughout the course of the league each team will play 14 matches and based on the best performance of all three categories of a school 2 team will be qualified for the final. “This is exactly what we need; going to the grassroots in remote parts and creating structured avenues for kids. It is very important to expose children to the game at a younger age†says Prof. Vijay Barse (Founder & secretary-Krida Vikas Sanstha Nagpur).
“We have been working in the Northern Nagpur schools for suit some time now, and what we have observed is that there is a definite need for sporting activities in these schools and in some of the schools we go and conduct a session. But this is again because of baby league most of them getting a chance to come out and play in an organised tournament which is for the first time in their lives they are coming and playing on a green turf. Hope that through organising this tournament they will get a new momentum and their interest in playing football should definitely increase†says Dr. Abhijeet Barse (CEO-Krida Vikas Sasntha, Nagpur)
On the second day all the teams will finish their first leg (finish their 7 matches).
