The newly appointed judge of Supreme Court, Justice Bhushan Gavai said during his felicitation that he had never dreamed of working as judge of the SC, but it became possible due to the cooperation of family and friends.

He said that his father R S Gavai, SC retired Justice Vikas Sirpurkar and present Justice Sharad Bobde had a huge share in his success. After starting legal practice, Raja Bhosale, C S Dharmadhikari, Bhausaheb Bobde, V R Manohar and others including other judges helped me learn and also had a hand in my success. Every person has positive and negative character but it is necessary to go on in life with positive thoughts. My personal life has been molded by the Sanskar of my mother and father, Justice Gavai stated.

Talking about the constitution, Justic3 Gavai said, “The sculptor of the Constitution of India Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had stated that the Constitution is the resource to give bloodless social and economic justice to the people. While working in the SupremeCourt, I will work on this principle and take efforts to give Constitutional rights to society.”

High court Bar Association of Nagpur has organised a felicitation programme for Justice Gavai for his appointment, at Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande Sabhagruha on Friday evening. He spoke on various issues including his work till date, his decisions, family, friends, and recollections. Retired Justice of the Supreme Court Vikas Sirpurkar felicitated Justice Gavai with a shawl,
coconut, and citation. Bombay High court’s Nagpur Bench’s administrative justice Ravi Deshpande presided the programme while organisation’s president Adv Anil Kilor and secretary Adv Praful Khubalkar were present on the dais.

The Supreme Court has maintained that basic rights and directive principles cannot be given less or more important than each other and both are the spirit of the Constitution. Article 226 of the
The constitution includes authority of justice and duty to give real justice.

“These principles have to be kept in mind while giving justice. Some decisions given in some cases give satisfaction to the soul. I have also given such decisions, stated Justice Gavai. These decisions included wage increments, service security to college teachers, unauthorized religious structures, etc”, he stated.
