In a major upset, unseeded Pearl Amalsadiwala of Mumbai Suburban District surprised top seed, Aditi Sinha, to enter the pre-quarterfinals in the junior girl’s category in the Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by Nagpur District Table Tennis Association at Subhedar Hall, here on Monday.
Pearl playing against the top-ranked player and city colleague Aditi won first two sets 11-9, 11-3 and made her intention clear. However, in the third set, Aditi tried to make come back and won it 11-5. In the fourth set, Pearl regained her form and turned the tables on Aditi 11-8.
City’s Ananya Sakalkale and Jui Pendharkar entered the pre-quarters. While Ananya defeated Bhavika Moolrajani of Thane 11-5, 11-9, 3-11, 11-9 Jui got the better of Nilaya Huddar of Kolhapur 9-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9. Another city shuttler Disha Girdhar made exit as Vidhi Shah of MSD defeated her 11-3, 11-7, 11-4.
