MPCB and PESO tested firecracker decibels

MPCB and PESO Tested Firecracker Decibels | The Live Nagpur

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Petroleum and Explosives Safety and Testing Station (PESO) are appealing citizens to use low noise pollution firecrackers and celebrate a safe Diwali as per the decided norms by MPCB.

According to the guidelines by MPCB firecrackers producing noise above the noise level of 125 dB (AI) or 145 dB (C) when calculated from a distance of 4 meters from the bursting point is illegal and has been banned. The previously notified noise standards have been notified under the Environment Protection Act.

Even though few crackers are already banned for the use in the whole state, firecrackers like pop-pop and thunder bombs which are manufactured by Standard Fireworks are being openly sold at the firecracker shops and even at the stationary shops and grocery stores.

A test was done by the MPCB and PESO during which 25 types of firecrackers were tested for their sound emission limit. This test was done at the PESO testing station at Gondkhairi on Wednesday. PESO and MPCB cordially visited various shops of firecrackers and collected samples of each cracker available at the store. During this surprise visit by the MPCB and PESO authorities banned crackers like pop-pop were also found at the store.

The banned crackers pop and thunder bombs contain harmful chemicals that are made in China and are very harmful to kids and even adults. These firecrackers contain silver fulminate and chlorate which are prohibited in the whole nation.

Thunder bombs are banned as they have been proved to exceed the noise level of atom and Laxmi bomb, it is known to have 108.3 dB (A) there were few more crackers like Dragon and Maroon which have been banned across the country as these crackers emitted a sound level even higher than that of thunder bombs.

During the firecracker testing H P Sangole, Deputy Controller Explosives, Hema Deshpande, SRO, MPCB, Anand Katole, SRO MPCB, Wanjari, Police Inspector, Amol Soanbarse, PESO, Security Academics and Testing Centre were present.
