Cleanliness in Nagpur, a Chimera or Not?

Cleanliness in Nagpur, a Chimera or Not?

Nowadays the cleanliness drive is gaining momentum across the nation. However, cleanliness in Nagpur has become a cliché and the city is struggling to meet the standards of this move. Every city in the country is trying their maximum to come first with top rates, on the other hand, the civic administration of the city is exhibiting total laxity in this matter and from the last week the garbage collection system of the city has turned into a futile one and ultimately created large garbage mound in various localities of the city.

The  crackers which had bursted in Diwali festival  has in its complete sense has aggravated the issue as the garbage of bursted crackers has not cleaned yet and paved way a lot of heaps of garbage. It was visible in many prominent areas of the city like Rajvilas theatre in Mahal, under the sitabuldi flyover in Lokmat chowk, Sadar, Itwari.

As per information, more than 110 metric ton garbage is collected from city, and the collected garbage should be taken to Bhandewadi dumping ground for treating it.However, the NMC has decided to start a bio mining of the collected garbage in Bhandewadi and generate electricity from it, but the point to be noted here is that it is not started yet. As per information, from November 15 NG Environo Pvt Ltd and BVG Pvt Ltd will handle the responsibility of the collected garbage from the city.

The NMC has claimed that it had implemented ‘Swacchata Hi Seva’ cleanliness drive in three phases from September 18 to October 27.Despite the initiatives, the cleanliness drive in city couldn’t reap the desired results. Ahead of Swacchata Survey, the NMC should take measures to maintain the cleanliness in city throughout the year. And should utilise about 8000 sanitation employees for this purpose.

Swachh Survekshan (Cleanliness survey) is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2 October 2019.
