Family of Amit Sharma Shows an Act of Humanity by Donating Organs

Amit Sharma a resident of Wadi had recently met with an accident after which the doctors of GMCH had declared him brain dead. Family members of Amit Sharman showed that humanity is still not dead by donating organs of their young member. Amit’s two kidneys and liver were retrieved and donated successfully.

Amit Sharma, a student met with an accident wherein he suffered severe head injury. The accident had taken place near Wadi. He was admitted to nearby private hospital, and then shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) – Trauma centre. After treating for two days the team of doctors at GMCH declared him brain dead. Relatives were counselled by social worker Shyam Panjala, Dr Faisal and Prarthna Dwivedi.

His two brothers Punit and Sumit Sharma gave formal consent saying that their brother can save life of others by donating the organs. They readily agreed to donate all possible organs. Guidance and organ allocation was done by Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre- (ZTCC) Nagpur President Dr Vibhavari Dani, Secretary Dr Ravi Wankhede. Retrieval and Transplantation were coordinated by Nagpur Zone coordinator Veena Wathore.

Accordingly, two kidneys and liver were donated. One kidney was given to a 22- year-old patient at Super Speciality Hospital while second kidney was given to a 57-year-old male patient at Meditrina Hospital. Liver was given to a 40- year-old male in New Era Hospital, Lakadganj. Heart and lungs alert was sent at national level with suitable recipient was also found, but could not make logistic arrangements.

Details of GMCH – Donor Hospital UNDER the able guidance of Dean Dr Sajal Mitra, and Dr Naresh G Tirpude, Head, Department of Anaesthesiology coordinated, supervised and management of BSD donor till organs are retrieved. Brain dead committee members at GMCH Trauma centre was Dr Naresh G Tirpude, Dr Pavitra Patnaik, Dr C M Atkar, Dr Avinash Gawande.

Donor maintenance Neurosurgeon Team include Dr Pavitra Patnaik, Dr Ramanuj Kabra, Orthopedic team Dr Faisal, Dr Aniket. Surgery team – Dr Vipul Gupta, Dr Rajat. Stable maintenance of brain dead done by Anaesthesia Team – Dr Pradeep Dhumne, Dr Soma Cham, Dr Sushant Chandewar, Dr Vishaka Khaparkar, Dr Bhagyashree Sarda, Dr Aafaque Anjum, Dr Apeksha Bhure, Dr Jagdish Naik, Dr Sachin Salve, Dr Anagha Nagdive, Dr NareshYerne, Dr Huma Khatib, Dr Vinamra Tiwari, Dr Mariya Shirpuravala, Dr Deepika Dabherao who worked for days and nights.
