Second seeded duo Tanussh Ghildyal and Aaradhaya Dwivedi stunned top seed Vedant Bhasin and Samprit Sharma in an exciting final to win boys doubles title in All India Under-12 Tennis Championship organised by MSLTA and Nagpur District Hardcourt Tennis Association at Ram Nagar court, here on Thursday.
In the boys doubles finals shorter and less muscular Tanussh and Aaradhaya gave not only a tough fight but raised their game when it mattered most. They were also helped by too many unforced errors of Bhasin and Sharma and eventually the finals was won by Tanussh and Aaradhya with the score reading 0-6, 7-5, 10-8 (super tiebreak).
In the girls doubles first semifinal, city girl Miss Sejal Bhutada paired with Miss Anandi Bhutada beat Nainika Reddy and Rishitha Basireddy in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the other semifinal, Aakruti Sonkusre and Divya Ungrish overcame Thaniya and Hansika in a marathon semifinal that lasted over an hour and half and went into tiebreak 6-2, 7-5, 11-9.
In the boys singles, top seed vedant Bhasin set up a title clash with second seed Samprit Sharma. While Vedant defeated Aaradhaya in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 Sharma downed Tanussh Ghildyal in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the second semifinal.
In the girls section, seventh seed Maaya Rajesh from Coimbatore has been the tournament underdog. First she shocked top seed previous day and in the semi-final she overcame third seed Nainika Reddy 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The other finalist Rishitha Basireddy (S6) got the better of second seed Divya Ungrish in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
