VNIT conducted all India Inter NIT Faculty & Staff Cricket Tournament

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur organized the first ever All India Inter NIT Faculty & staff Cricket Tournament 2019-20 from December 27 to 30.

The objective of organizing the tournament was to provide a common platform to the teaching and non teaching staff all NITs, to encourage the staff towards physical activities in the form of competitive sports, to provide a cohesive atmosphere for social interaction and to develop enthusiasm & team spirit in day to day life among the staff of various NITs of India.This is just an effort to encourage the faculty and staff of NIT family to inculcate the habit of regular physical activities besides their busy schedule.

This tournament experienced overwhelming response of 12 teams who took part in this tournament. The teams who participated in the tournament included NIT Jaipur, NIT Durgapur, NIT Uttarakhand, NIT Andhra Pradesh, NIT Silchar, NIT Bhopal, NIT Calicut, NIT Allahabad, NIT Rourkela, NIT Warangal, NIT Raipur and NIT Nagpur.

VNIT Nagpur bagged the third position, NIT Uttarakhand was the runner up and MNIT Jaipur won the championship trophy.

The valedictory function witnessed Ravindra Thakare, The Honourable Collector and District Magistrate of Nagpur as the chief guest of the function and Chinmay S. Pandit, DCP Traffic, Nagpur as the guest of honour. Subir Debnath, the physio of the Indian Cricket team was the observer for the tournament.The chief guest of the function had appreciated the effort taken by the institute to organize the Cricket tournament for the faculty and staff of various NITs across the country. He also emphasized the importance of physical fitness in day to day life. The guest of honour also extended his best wishes to the participants and appreciated their zeal of taking part in such an event taking out time from busy schedule.The Director of VNIT, Dr. P. M Padole thanked the directors of all NITs and the participants for the overwhelming response to this tournament.

Chairman BoG, VNIT, Vishramji Jamdar presided over the function and enlightened the gathering with his encouraging words.

Besides the trophies to the winner and the runners up team, six individual prizes were also given

  •  Most Energetic player of the tournament: Dr. P. M. Padole the captain of VNIT Cricket
  • Man of the match of Final: Roop Narayan Sharma- MNIT Jaipur
  • Best Fielder of the tournament: Rajesh Kumar- MNIT Jaipur
  • Best Bowler of the tournament: Roshan Singh- MNIT Jaipur
  • Best Batsman of the tournament: Dr. Kuldeep Singh- NIT Uttarakhand
  • Man of the tournament: Shiv Kumar Sharma- MNIT Jaipur
