National Campaign for Awareness, Self-Enforcement, Reward & Recognition for Safer Driving Behaviour among Road

During the 31st Road Safety Week 2020, as announced by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a Citizen Campaign on Arresting Alarming Road Deaths is planned by NGO “Drive Smart Drive Safe” in Nagpur on 13th January at Main gate, Mahindra, MIDC Hingna road, where over 2000 people are expected to join and take road safety pledge.

The chief guest to generate awareness to the masses on Road safety awareness will be Mr Sandeep Joshi ji, Mayor of Nagpur. Guest of honours will be Mr Chinmay Pandit (Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police), Mr Ramashankar Panday (Managing Director – Hella India Lighting Limited). NGO, Drive Smart Drive Safe along with SIAM, CII & many other like-minded organisations has launched the campaign titled ‘India Against Road Crash IARC2020’ during the 31st National Road safety week.

The objective of the campaign is to start a sustainable chain of Nationwide activities, which will not only make people aware & transform their behaviour on roads but it will also lead to the formation of Road Safety Clubs among Corporates, Institutions & organizations at various locations. and make Indian roads safer for everyone.

The campaign aims to educate and seek commitment from people towards self-enforcement. The campaign started on 11th January 2020, as part of the Road, Safety Week announced by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways from Wagah Border were over 50000 people took the safety pledge in one go which itself is a record. Never ever has such a large number of people have taken a safety pledge collectively.

The campaign is based on the thought of Jab Hum Badlenge Toh Desh Badlega. While there are many causes of Accident, it is important to ask ourselves what we can do to arrest these deaths. One solution can be to take charge, to own the responsibility, to become the change we want to see on our Roads. Therefore, The Nationwide campaign is aimed to get to the minds of Working People & Youths on this problem.

The campaign aims to Positively reinforcing Safe Driving by forming Drive safe club where committed Road Safety Warriors continue the spirit by “Recognizing & Rewarding” better Road Safety behaviour, Safer Road Contributions by its members. These good Samaritans and Road Safety Warriors from various Corporate Road Safety Clubs will then be recognized on a national level by the 1Crore collaborative platform of Road Safety Organizations across the country. The campaign has principal Sponsor as Mahindra & Associate partner as Wabco & Brakes India. This mega event in Nagpur is supported by Confederation of Indian Industry Vidharbha Zone (CII) , Nag Vidharbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) , MIDC Industries Association (MIA) , Vidharba automobile dealers association (VADA), Lions Club, Vidharbha industries association (VIA) , Vidharbha economic development council (VED council) , Nagpur First, Rotary club Nagpur, Round table of Nagpur, Chamber of association of Maharashtra industry trade (CAMIT) , Confederation of all India Traders (CAIT) , Vidharbha taxpayers Association (VTA) , Educational institutes like – Raisoni group of institutes, St Xaviers High School, Shanti Vidya Bhawan school, Balaji high school.

Information Classification: Internal The campaign is supported on national level by ACMA, CII-Yi, FICCI, FADA, AIAWA, ASDC, AIMA, Hella, NGO Arrive safely, AITWA, Safety Circle, Bosch, WRI, Raahgiri day, People trust, Incubsence, Help Guru, Indian Road Safety campaign, Haryana Vision zero, RSO Gurgaon & Faridabad and. Volunteers from Bharat Scouts & Guide, NCC, CRPF, RAF, ITBP, BSF, CISF NSS, Sports Authority of India, NDRF, Rotary Clubs. Week-long Nationwide campaign will get to the minds of people by inspiring them with activities like: 1) Taking a 2 minute s pledge of 6Point Road Safety Code of Conduct 2) Observing a minute of silence for Millions of victims who died in Road Crashes around the country, 3) A short Road Safety Walkathon & Walk donation, 4) Coming together & forming a Road Safety Human Chain 5) Collective Listening of Road Safety Anthem & 6) Encouraging to form local Road Safety Clubs. Central theme of the program is to enrol people from all walks of life to came together and commit for Safer Road Behaviour by taking 2 minutes pledge of Road Safety Code of Conduct.

“Travelling on Indian Road is extremely risky & there are many overlapping reasons for such alarming Road Crashes in our country, but one sure solution is JabHumBadlengeTohDeshBadlega. For masses, Road crash is called an accident & it is yet not seen as act of Science but rather an unfortunate act of God, believing on #NimbuMirchi & #KaaliBilli than acting safe & alert on our Roads, ” Said Rama Shankar Pandey, MD-Hella India Lighting Ltd. Mr. Pandey added, it’s not just a one-off campaign during the Road Safety Week but a long term commitment to form India’s 1st of its kind Drive Safe club which grows the Safe Driver community by Sensitising Self Discipline and continuously improve them by behaviour based reward system.

The campaign also appeals to Organizations of all kind, like Schools, Colleges, Universities, Corporates, Start-ups, RWA’s, Institutions, Clubs to do the campaign in their own Campus, Plants, Offices, Canteens, Parks, neighbourhoods, supplier/contractor premises using portal https://www.iarc2020.org/ & upload pictures/videos, as it’s a shared open platform to be used by anyone to join the campaign & #BringTheChange in their respective ecosystem. It is a historic step in the journey of making India free from all avoidable Road Deaths.
