Alarming! 114 mental patients lost lives in 57 months

According to the information received under the Right to Information (RTI) about 114 mental patients of the Regional Mental Hospital lost their lives from the year 2015-16 to December 2019 that includes 70 males and 44 females.

The other problem is of vacant posts at the hospital as 39 percent of posts still await appointments.

The information provided through the RTI included the number of patients admitted, treated, died and vacant posts in the hospital since the year 2015-16.

The maximum deaths occurred in the year 2016, 17 which were 31 while in the year 2019-20 this figure is 30. In all 14 patients died from April 2019 to December 2019.

More than 13K new patients every year come to the mental hospital. From the year 2015-16 in all 13 thousand 369 new patients registered in the OPD while there were 2 lakh 2,497 old patients taking treatment during the same period in OPD.

Similarly, in the IPD there were 29.934 new patients and 2,987 patients were already taking treatment. There were 140 addicts while ear liver patients were 64.

Talking about the problem of vacant posts at the Regional Mental Hospital. In all 374 posts are sanctioned out of which 146 are vacant leading to more than 39 percent. Around 45.45 percent posts of class one, 50 percent of class two, 22.32 of class three while 45.15 of class four are vacant.
