Sigh of relief, electricity bills can be paid in installments

The citizens are really shocked after they received the hefty electricity bills. Now they can have a sigh of relief as energy minister Nitin Raut on Tuesday announced that the consumers can pay the electricity bills in installments and power won’t be disconnected if people do not pay the bill in the coming three months.

Raut further stated the Maharashtra government is public oriented hence people will not be burdened with paying the bills in the pandemic crisis. The people can contact the local engineer and pay their electricity bill in installmets, minister added. It was not possible to assess the meter reading and circulate bills in view of the COVID-19 lockdown which is why people were not given bills for three months.Due to the coronavirus situation people are now receiving bills for the period of March 12 to April 12,April 13 to May 13 and May 14 to June 14.

Energy minister also added that one of the reasons for the inflated bills could be the hike in prices by the electricity regulatory commission and due to lockdown people were at their homes, the power consumption increased and the summer season also added on to it.
