Flooding in city, civic chief orders to remove encroachments or face action

Unchecked construction and  encroachments on nullahs are in true sense creating flooding in several areas of the city. When heavy rains occur, the residential area near nullah near is often its first victim.Civic Chief Tukaram Mundhe has stated that the NMC sponsored study has found correlation between the encroachment on nullahs and gutter lines to be the biggest cause of floods in the city. The civic chief has warned of strict action against such encroachments.

The flooding of residential areas has become a serious issue for Nagpur city at present and the NMC has received a plethora of complaints in this regard.Based on the complaints, the commissioner had constituted a committee headed by Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi, Superintendent of Water Supply Department Shweta Banerjee and other officials to study the issue. The study has revealed serious issues concerning the flooding in the city.

As per information, encroachment on the gutter line is posing a health hazard for the city.Due to the concrete construction done on the gutter line, repair work cannot be done. This has caused the choking of the gutter lines and the NMC workers find it difficult to clean the choked gutter.Similar is the case with the nullahs. There were 227 nullahs in the city. And now the number has increased into around 130.And we should take the matter very seriously.
