Civic administration to take all efforts to ensure supply of adequate oxygen cylinders in city hospitals

As we know the city is undergoing through a serious situation due the hike in number of positive cases, and demand for oxygen is increasing to all time high in city. Amidst this situation, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is stepping up co-ordination with other officials to ensure supply of 4500 jumbo cylinders. Jalaj Sharma, Additional Municipal Commissioner, is tying-up with supplier, talking to officials of other department that oversees industrial production, to facilitate increase in oxygen production capacity. At present in Government setup, 1377 beds at three hospitals are available exclusively for treatment of COVID-19 positive patients while in 33 designated private hospitals about 1450 beds and providing them oxygen facility is utmost necessary.

Current requirements for COVID-19 are of 4200 jumbo cylinders while production capacity in Nagpur is of 4500 cylinders. NMC has stepped-up sample collection centres to 50 and officials have urged citizens to walk to nearest one and rule out contraction of virus. The appeal is made since death analysis on which civic officials and Municipal Commissioner is personally supervising the team found that citizens have come at last minute due to breathlessness and then it became difficult for doctors. One more factor that came to fore was that none of the patients who succumbed to COVID-19 has previously undergone any test. Right now testing capacity in city is around 6,000 which earlier was 2000 to 2500 per day. Additional Municipal Commissioner said that NMC is making all efforts to ensure the supply of adequate oxygen demand of city hospitals so that citizens get best of the treatment.
