After three years of struggle, Ambazari ground open for the residents

Finally the playground in Ambazari area which was turned into a dumping yard is restored to its old pristine beauty by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation after three years of resident’s struggle.

This Ambazari playground is the only open ground for residents of Deotale Layout,

Ambazari Layout, Purohit Layout, Verma Layout as people of all ages and children use to spend their time walking and playing during evening hours.

However, about three years ago all of a sudden huge boulders and murrum was dumped in the ground much to the amusement of citizens. People in itially thought that authorities might be strengthening the play ground as in some places it was uneven. But nothing of that sort happened even days after dumping the material. Already the citizens were under shock as a huge corner surrounding the open ground was handed over to an education society and hence they were determined to ensure that remaining open space in their neighbourhood is not lost.

When the residents realised that the ground is just being used as dumping yard,  the Jansamsya Nivaran Sangarsha Samiti, an active community body of Ambazari area, took note of the activity and from that time began the struggle to reclaim back the community space.

From time to time the citizens, approached authorities at various forums demanding removal of the dumped soil and other material from the ground.

The Samiti members kept up the dogged fight so as to keep up their struggle for saving the ground and their efforts have paid off. The residents informed that recently civic officials started to remove the dumped material and pressed earth mover to

level the ground. The murrum and boulders in middle were spread evenly and now the uneven ground is levelled giving much-needed space to citizens to spend some quality time and rekindle old memories.

Apart from restoration of the ground the Samiti has also asked for installation of lights so that the ground can be useful even after sun set. The flood lights can ensure that, citizens and children and youth can continue to use the playground to the fullest.

Also the citizens have demanded laying of walking track, some amusement facilities for the children in one corner. A green gym too can be affixed as same would be very fruitful in these as people have become health conscious.
