Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University convened an emergent meeting of its Management Council on Tuesday.
The meeting was held in view of the Senate meeting scheduled for March 9. Although the University authorities are not sure whether the Senate meeting can be held off-line or on-line or will have to be postponed. The meeting of the Senate is important as the university budget will be presented. The Annual Report of the University and Action Taken Report on the decisions taken by the Senate in the last meeting, will also be placed for discussion.
The Senate meeting of March is considered to be very important. With the Vice-Chancellor acquiring more powers under the new Maharashtra Public Universities Act, several tricky questions are not brought for discussion. A large number of Senate members are nominated by the VC himself, or are cleared with his consent. These nominated persons usually support the VC on all fronts. The heated discussion on several issues is not observed in these meetings.
The emergent meeting of the Management Council was held to clear replies to the questions which will be the agenda of the Senate meeting.
