COVID Vaccine for 15-18 Years: Children can register on CoWIN app from Jan 1

As India is all set to roll out vaccines for the age group of 15-18 years the central government on Monday informed the children will be able to register on the CoWIN app from January 1.

Dr. RS Sharma, CoWIN platform Chief informed that children in the age group of 15-18 years will be able to register on the CoWIN app from January 1. The children will be required to submit ‘student id cards’ for the registration process for Covid vaccination, Sharma added. “We’ve added an additional (10th) ID card for registration – the student ID card because some might not have Aadhaar or other identity cards” Sharma added.

Meanwhile, the registration process for senior citizens above 60 years will be exactly the same. If you are above 60 years of age and have taken both doses and the gap between the second dose and the day you are registering is more than 9 months (39 weeks) then you are eligible Dr RS Sharma said.

When you will register, it will ask whether you have any comorbidities or not. If you say yes, you will be able to book and have to show the comorbidities certificate from registered doctor at the vaccination centre and then you can get jabs:  Dr Sharma added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25 announced that vaccination against COVID-19 for children between 15-18 years will start from January 3, while “precaution dose” for healthcare and frontline workers would be administered from January 10. The decisions came amid rising Covid cases linked to the Omicron variant of the virus.

Covaxin has shown that it has a very good immune response in children in trials, Dr NK Arora, Chairman of Covid Task Force working group, NTAGI, said.
