India registers 3 lakh new COVID cases, 349 deaths in last 24 hours

For the sixth day in a row, India reported nearly three lakh new COVID-19 infections, despite the fact that the caseload was 8% lower than the day before, according to government data.

With the addition of 3.06 lakh instances recorded today, India’s Covid tally now stands at 3.95 crore, making it the second worst-affected country behind the United States.

The current cases now account for 5.69 percent of all infections, while the COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 93.07 percent nationwide.

COVID-19 immunisation coverage in India has reached 162.26 crore doses. At least 72 percent of India’s adult population is completely vaccinated, while approximately 52 percent of children aged 15 to 18 have received their first dose of Covid vaccine.

According to the Health Ministry, 439 people have died as a result of Covid in the last 24 hours. During the current Covid epidemic, at least 60% of the patients who died were either partially or completely unvaccinated.

Maharashtra added 40,805 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 75,07,225, with 44 fatalities bringing the total to 1,42,115. There were 2,550 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Mumbai, with 13 deaths. Offline lessons for pupils in pre-primary and schools 1-12 are restarting today in Maharashtra, including Mumbai.

Meanwhile, as per the experts, the Omicron variation is in the community transmission stage in the country and has grown prevalent in some metros where new cases have been increasing quickly.

Between January 1 and 7, the world saw an average of almost two million daily coronavirus cases, with the number doubling in ten days, according to news agency AFP. Since the outbreak in China in December 2019, the virus has killed over 5.4 million people.
