A perfect Valentine’s Day gift for cities youth who aspire to become pilots as Nagpur Flying Club was finally inaugurated on February 14.
The main base of operation is at hangar no.1, Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Sonegaon Aerodrome.
The Nagpur Flight Club’s pilot training program was launched on Monday, February 14 at 3 p.m.
State minister for environment and forest Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated the club in the presence of guardian minister Nitin Raut, divisional commissioner Prajakta Lavangare-Verma, collector R Vimala, NMC commissioner R Radhakrishnan and others.
The British era club was shut down on account of government’s apathy, as funds were not released for its maintenance and for staff appointments in 2017.
Aditya Thackeray congratulated the NFC staff for the club’s reopening when the nation is celebrating 75 years of Independence. “With the NFC reopening, dreams of many flying aspirants from Vidarbha would be fulfilled,†he said.
Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has allotted 5.9 acres land for NFC’s expansion in Mihan. A proposal to install multi-engine plane, two C-plane, a flight simulator, a helicopter has been made.
Nagpur Flying Club was established in 1947 and is cheapest flying school in India. The Club, which was started by a few enthusiasts, was later taken over by Government of Maharashtra.
