The Enquiry Committee set up for conducting probe into financial irregularities in various departments of Nagpur Municipal Corporation has submitted its preliminary report to Dayashankar Tiwari, the Mayor, in a sealed envelope on Friday.

The committee was set up under the presidentship of Avinash Thakre, Ruling Party Leader, following directives by Tiwari recently. Thakre, Tanaji Wanve, Opposition Leader, Sandip Jadhav, Adv Sanjay Balpande, Vaishali Narnaware, Justice (retd) S P Mule, all members, Nirbhay Jain, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Ranjana Lade, Municipal Secretary, and others were present on the occasion.

Tiwari, while discussing with newsperson, said that it would take some time as the scope for conducting enquiry was bigger. Therefore, the committee has submitted the preliminary report as the term of NMC expires on March 4. He said that instructions would be given for taking suitable action against guilty officers/employees after tabling the report in the net meeting.

Following the adjournment motion by Wanmve and Vijay (Pintu) Zalke, Corporator and former Chairman of Standing Committee, a five-member committee was formed at the instance of the Mayor.

President Thakre said that it has come to light that financial irregularities to the tune of crores of rupees prima facie and through deeper enquiry there could be a chance of increased proportion of corrupt practices. This report is of 200 pages with conclusions on 17 pages. He pointed out that the committee held 14 meetings for conducting enquiry of administrative officers. Though the committee requires more time it continuously worked and prepared the preliminary report on the issue. He admitted that the report is ready in short time because of the guidance by Justice (retd) Mule.
