The National Commission for Women (NCW) has ordered Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to take action over a book for nursing students that lists the dowry system’s “benefits and advantages.”

According to the cover, T K Indrani’s ‘Textbook of Sociology for Nurses’ is based on the Indian Nursing Council syllabus.

Under the headline “The Merits of Dowry,” it is said that receiving a share of parental property in dowry is one of the “merits” of the regressive practise.

The NCW said in a statement that the situation is severe and that the commission has taken notice of it.

“It sends the wrong message to students about the current ‘dowry’ threat. (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, requesting that he intervene and take corrective measures “it was noted

The chairwoman has also written to Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, requesting that he take action on the case and tell the NCW within a week.
