2659 illegal water consumers in Ashi Nagar Zone, NMC seizes booster pumps

As per GIS survey conducted jointly by Nagpur Municipal Corporation and OCW, as many as 2659 illegal consumers were found in Binaki-1 command area of Ashi Nagar Zone having unauthorised connections.

The consumers are from the localities of Pravesh Nagar, Mehboopura, Yogi Arvind Nagar, Hamid Nagar, Pande Basti, Sangam Nagar, Khwaja STD area, Yashodhara Nagar, Garib Nawab Nagar, Shivshakti Nagar, Sanjivani Quarters, Sarodabad, Vansale Basti etc. In the above-mentioned area, over 1500 consumers had double connections at their homes – one legal and another illegal connection in consumer property. The areas get water supply for two hours and it is observed that the citizens get polluted water because of illegal connections and after some time they start getting clean water.

In most of the areas, the pipelines are also encroached upon due to construction activities. To curb the contamination issue, NMC and OCW will take a drive to disconnect all the illegal connections from May 4 onwards.

Meanwhile, NMC team undertook drive to seize booster pumps being used by consumers, looking into low pressure issue in Nandanvan slum. Low water pressure was mainly in lane numbers from 1 to 3 and from 10 to 14 in the last couple of days. The team seized 11 pumps and NMC will take up the drive in the nearby areas.
