NMC to publish Prabhag-wise draft electoral rolls on 23rd

Nagpur Municipal Corporation will publish Prabhag-wise draft electoral rolls on Thursday for the forthcoming elections to the corporation.

The state Election Commission asked to use updated Assembly voters’ list till May 31, 2022 with cut-off date January 1, 2022 and publish the electoral rolls, following directives by the Election Commission of India.

The persons wanting to take objections, make suggestions or changes about their names appearing in some other Prabhag, missing names in the Prabhag despite names in Assembly list and correcting them is till July 1. They cannot include their names or delete them from the list other than the Assembly voters’ list. Such persons should visit zonal offices or Election Cell at the HQ till July 1. The election personnel will take decisions on them to publish the final voters’ lists on July 9.

The bifurcated electoral rolls Prabhag-wise will be published on Thursday after taking into consideration the names included, deleted or changes made in the Assembly lists till May 31. The electoral rolls will be published tomorrow at all zone offices of NMC  or Headquarters and on the website- nmcnagpurelection.org/nmcnagpur.gov.in.

This was disclosed by Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator of NMC, while addressing a press conference at the conference hall of NMC here on Wednesday.

To a question, Radhakrishnan replied that the election date would be announced after getting communication from the Commission.

The State Election Commission has given approval to the final Prabhag structure on May 12. The total population within the limits of corporation is 24,47,494 as per 2011 census while the number of voters are: 22,93,131. The population of ST members is 4,80,759 and that SC members is 1,88,444. There will be 52 Prabhgs, each consisting of three Corporators, thus the number of members to be elected is 156 in the election, he pointed out.

The corporation had held lucky draw on May 31 for reserving seats for ST (women), SC (women) and general category (women) and published the list on June 13.

Ram Joshi, Additional Municipal Commissioner, was present at the press conference.
