Accuracy is very important in disaster management sector as there is no scope for man-made mistakes. Therefore, the concerned authorities should utilise modern technology, exhorted Asim Gupta, Principal Secretary, Disaster Management Assistance and Rehabilitation and In-charge Secretary for Nagpur district here on Thursday.
A high-level meeting of District Disastern Management Authority was held in Chhatrapati Hall in the Collectorate to take review of precautionary measures during monsoon. Gupta guided the officials on machinery, inter-state coordination, weather and modern techniques in disaster management.
Insisting on use of modern technology, Gupta stressed the need for strengthening coordination with nearby states after taking into consideration the rivers flowing from Nagpur district and connecting to other states. The authorities must avoid a repeat of the mistakes committed during 2020 floods but learn lesson and work effectively on the basis of experience gained then.
Vimla R, District Collector, expressed concern over many people die due to lightning cases and told that so far a dozen persons lost their lives because of it. The administration has made arrangement for sending/receiving SMS on mobile in highly susceptible areas.
Gupta also asked the authorities to make all the necessary arrangements or preparations well in advance so as to avoid replies like material was not available hence could not help etc.
