Leadership is best tested during crisis – IIM Director Dr. Bhimraya Metri

It is the responsibility of the leader to take the organization ahead by taking the right decisions in all kinds of situations. The Director of IIM Bhimraya Metri asserted that leadership is best tested when the business is going through crisis. If the leader can keep the business going even in crisis and bounce back powerfully then his leadership is widely accepted, he added.

He was speaking at the inaugural session of ‘Saksham’ Management Conclave organized by Vidarbha Management Association at Chitnavis Center auditorium on Sunday. Ajit Diwadkar of Ajit Bakery was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Dr. Metri said that the success of the organization depends entirely on the vision of the leader. It has been challenging to thrive when the entire world has come together as a global market. But it is to remember that, every crisis also brings opportunities. Those opportunities should be recognizable to the leader. Success depends on planning and proper execution.

Indian people are at the forefront of emergency management. At the same time, he explained through examples that Indians lag behind when it comes to teamwork.

It is necessary to embrace change with time. Keeping a proper understanding of the strategies of your competitors is helpful for a successful move. Look at the crisis as an opportunity. Those who find opportunities in crisis become leaders, he added.

Ajit Diwadkar said that the country is celebrating the 75 years of Independence. The recent few years have been vibrant in terms of business sector in India. Although the main objective of business is to make money, but economic transformation along with employment generation are also the social angles of business.

In India the nature of serving the society through businesses has been there since ages. He added that his grandfather started the business from a railway canteen and that he feels satisfied to take it successfully further. On this occasion, he spoke on the strategic management that made his business flourish.

Then 18 management experts guided the attendees on various topics in three tracks. On this occasion, sessions were held on various topics including strategic planning, government schemes for MSMEs, digital marketing, manpower planning, operations and sales management, financial planning etc.

In the concluding session, Dr. Rizwan Ahmed, Chief Technology Officer, Delaplex, gave a detailed discourse on the growing use of Artificial Intelligence and the changing nature of business in future due to it.The use of artificial intelligence has provided low-cost and quick solutions. This technology is going to be widely used in the future as the internet is spreading rapidly. He said that this will enable even small businesses to connect with their customers through mobile. AI will enable doing things in a transparent manner, in less time and with precision.

Earlier, Dr. Sumera Sabir, Administrative In charge Rajinikanth and Prashant Thacke of Madhavbaug were felicitated by VMA President Mahendra Giridhar. Project Director Sandeep Tibdiwal and Arvind Aggarwal along with the entire team of Vidarbha Management Association worked tirelessly to make this program a success.
