Aadhaar holders can now update their addresses online with the consent of the head of the family.

After submitting proof of relationship documents such as a ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, passport, and so on, mentioning the name of both the applicant and the head of family (HOF) and the relationship between them, the new process can be initiated. The HOF must authenticate the process using OTP.

The UIDAI issues a public advisory on the use of Aadhaar cards as identification documents.

In the absence of a proof of relationship document, UIDAI allows the resident to submit a self-declaration by the HOF in the UIDAI-prescribed format, according to the statement.

“The HOF-based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great assistance to a resident’s relative(s), such as children, spouse, parents, and so on, who do not have supporting documents in their own name to update the address in their Aadhaar. With people moving cities and towns within the country for a variety of reasons, such a facility will benefit millions of people “According to the statement.

The new address update option is in addition to the existing address update facility that allows you to use any valid proof of address document prescribed by UIDAI.

“Any resident over the age of 18 can be a HOF for this purpose, and through this process, he or she can share his or her address with his or her relatives,” the statement said.

Residents can update their addresses online by going to the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal.

Following that, the resident will be able to enter the HOF’s Aadhaar number, which will only be validated. To protect the HOF’s privacy, no other information from the HOF’s Aadhaar will be displayed on the screen.

Following successful validation of the HOF’s Aadhaar number, the resident will be required to upload proof of relationship documentation.

Residents must pay Rs 50 to use the service. Following successful payment, the resident would be given a service request number (SRN), and an SMS about the address request would be sent to the HOF.

“The HOF is to approve the request and give his or her consent by logging into the My Aadhaar portal within 30 days of receiving the notification, and the request will be processed,” according to the statement.

If the HOF refuses to share her or his address or does not accept or decline within 30 days of the SRN being created, the request will be closed.

The resident who requested an address update through this option will be notified of the request’s completion via SMS. The amount will not be refunded to the applicant if the request is closed or rejected due to non-acceptance of the HOF or rejected during the process, according to the statement.
