Chennai, Gujarat, and Lucknow withdraw from the Women’s IPL

The next big dream project for BCCI is the Women’s IPL (WIPL), which debuts in March of this year. After the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and Women’s Super Smash, the event might be the third such women’s franchise tournament in the world (New Zealand). Media reports state that CSK won’t make a bid for a women’s team.

According to reports, CSK, Gujarat Titans, and LSG have withdrawn from the competition. All three companies have expressed interest: Adani, Haldirams, and Torrent Pharma. More than 30 businesses have entered the competition to own a franchise, and the BCCI is anticipating a huge windfall. All 10 IPL franchises as well as other businesses will be competing to own a WIPL team, which will consist of 5 teams in its inaugural season. Haldiram, Infosys, Shriram Group, and the owners of Manchester United are a few of the businesses that are interested. In the tender, the BCCI has listed 10 Indian cities and the venues, allowing one party to submit a bid for multiple cities. The bids will be considered for a decade (2023-32).
