The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has made preparations to clean up and remove any black stains from the city’s main marketplaces. Twelve of the city’s marketplaces, including Sitabuldi, Jaripatka, Itwari, etc., are being cleaned overnight.
Emphasis on maintaining clean marketplaces in other areas will gradually increase. In addition, Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, the municipal commissioner, has scheduled a meeting for January 23 to discuss the Cleanliness Survey 2024 requirements and the removal of black spots. It’s evident that NMC has begun making improvements to its Swachh rating.
According to the information received, 15 to 20 sanitation workers have been assigned the responsibility of cleanliness in Sitabuldi main market from 10 pm to 5 am.
The entire surrounding area including Sitabuldi Main Road and Modi No. 1, 2, 3 inside is being cleaned. This campaign started in Sitabuldi from mid-January. When good results were seen, a cleanliness drive was started in other markets also.
Due to lagging behind in the processing of waste, Nag- pur remained at 86th position in the country among cities with a population of more than one lakh. It remained at number 27 among cities with a population of more than one million. It did not get marks in the star ranking due to lack of waste disposal process. For this reason its ranking in the Swaccha survey could not improve. Deputy commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department, Dr. Gajendra Mahalle said that sanitation workers have been deployed throughout the night to clean the markets. After regular cleaning, deep cleaning of the premises will be done.
198 places in city have been identified as black spots. Efforts are being made by Solid gWaste Management Department to eliminate 40 spots. Its work is in final stage. Black spots will be beautified.
