The Customs Department have seized 2 kg 937 grams of narcotic substances (drugs) worth around Rs 8 crore 81 lakh from Nagpur International Airport. This is the biggest operation in the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. One person has been arrested in this case.
The arrested drug smuggler is a resident of Chennai. 45-year-old man arrived at Nagpur airport early in the morning on Qatar Airways Flight No QR-590 from Uganda via Doha. The Customs officials had already laid a trap based on intelligence information. A man named Pax was searched on suspicion after he was intercepted while passing through the Green Channel.
Vigilant officers had noticed the unusual behavior of the accused passenger. So the authorities checked him thoroughly. In which suspicious items including a dummy propeller and two plate shaped discs were found in his luggage. When the dummy propeller and disc were opened for inspection, they were found to be filled with white and yellow powder. Methaqualone was detected in a white and yellow powder when tested with a drug detection kit. Pax has been arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
