In a significant enforcement drive during New Year Eve, the Nagpur Traffic Police penalized 6,953 vehicle owners for various violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, collecting fines totaling ₹2,07,100. The operation was part of a comprehensive effort to ensure public safety during the festivities.
The crackdown began on Monday at 4:30 pm, as part of a citywide nakabandi operation initiated by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal. The operation targeted drunk driving, overspeeding, and other traffic violations. Checkpoints were strategically set up across Nagpur, with police personnel equipped with breath analyzers to monitor motorists for compliance.
To enhance road safety, special flying squads led by DCP Traffic Archit Chandak patrolled the city. Key traffic restrictions were also implemented, including the closure of major flyovers and route diversions, to deter reckless driving and other dangerous behaviors.
Additionally, police issued strict warnings to clubs and bars, emphasizing the prohibition of alcohol sales to minors and ensuring that establishments operate with valid permits. Violators were warned of severe legal consequences.
