In a focused drive to curb noise pollution, the Nagpur Traffic Police seized 440 two-wheelers with modified silencers during a special campaign conducted from January 5 to January 9, 2025. The campaign was launched following complaints from citizens, particularly senior residents, about the loud noise caused by modified silencers.
Legal action was taken under Sections 190(2) and 198 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and the silencers were removed, replaced with original ones, and destroyed during an event at Samvidhan Square on January 9. This marked the largest operation against modified silencers by the Nagpur Traffic Department to date.
The campaign resulted in ₹3,97,050 collected as fines across 10 traffic zones. The MIDC zone led with ₹50,350 collected from 42 cases, followed by Sadar with ₹45,750 from 71 cases. Sonegaon zone reported 40 cases with ₹44,450 in fines, while Ajni collected ₹65,950 from 36 cases. Other zones, including Sitabuldi, Cotton Market, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, Indora, and Kamptee, also contributed to the total collection.
DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak led the operation, with senior officials, including Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal and Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, overseeing the silencer destruction.
Nagpur Traffic Police have warned violators of continued strict action and urged vehicle owners to comply with noise regulations to maintain public peace and safety.
