Central Railway, Nagpur Division, is currently undertaking the restoration work of Arch Bridge No. 1042/1 (837/1), a 2×3.05m span structure located in the Nagpur Yard towards the Itarsi (ET) end. The bridge’s crown at the Nagpur Station end has been damaged, affecting track safety.
The bridge first exhibited distress in 2018, leading to track sinking at the Nagpur end. Immediate temporary measures, including the placement of rails and cross rails, were implemented to restore train operations. However, heavy rains on 23rd September 2023 exacerbated the issue, washing out soil above the arch and beneath the track. This led to disturbances in track parameters due to reduced cushion. To ensure temporary safety, a rail cluster has been placed below the affected track.
The restoration work on the bridge is currently in progress. Previously, cement pressure grouting and pointing were completed for one span of the bridge. The remaining repair work on the affected portion is being expedited to ensure the safety and reliability of train operations on the mainline.
Central Railway remains committed to passenger and operational safety and is making all efforts to complete the restoration at the earliest. Passengers are requested to cooperate as we work towards maintaining smooth and safe train services.
