About five lakh women have been removed from the Mukhyamantri Ladki Bahin scheme, Maharashtra Minister for Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said on Friday. Most of the women were deriving benefits under the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana or were not eligible for the Ladki Bahin scheme. The number of women getting benefits of the Sanjay Gandhi Niradhar Yojana and also availed Ladki Bahin benefit, is whopping 2.30 lakh.
The Mahayuti alliance had introduced the Ladki Bahin scheme before the Assembly elections and had extended Rs 1,500 every month to the beneficiaries. The ruling alliance benefited due to the scheme in the 2024 Assembly elections. The government then started scrutiny of the application forms to detect fake claims made by the applicants.
Tatkare said that about five lakh women applicants have been removed from the scheme. The orders for their removal have been issued between 28 June and July 3, 2024. This includes 1.10 lakh women above 65 years of age, family members owning a four-wheeler, beneficiaries of the Namoshakti scheme and those who voluntarily opted to withdraw.
