After years of delays and escalating costs, authorities have sanctioned ₹9.76 crore to push the completion of Nagpur’s 100-bed District General Hospital in Mankapur. Originally set for completion in 2020, the project remains stalled in 2025, with costs rising from ₹28 crore to ₹44 crore.
The newly sanctioned funds will be used for essential infrastructure, including the Medical Gas Pipeline System, Modular Operation Theatres, Intensive Care Units, Sewage Treatment Plant, fire safety, and medical equipment installation. However, major concerns remain as approvals for 195 medical staff positions and ₹4.5 crore worth of essential equipment are still pending.
Despite civil work being nearly finished, the hospital cannot function without trained professionals and proper medical infrastructure. The delay has left thousands of residents without much-needed healthcare, forcing them to travel to Mayo Hospital and IGGMC for even basic medical services.
Local residents express skepticism, with many questioning whether authorities will follow through. “We’ve heard these promises before, but the hospital is still non-operational,” said a resident. With elections approaching, political pressure is mounting, but without firm deadlines, public trust remains low.
For now, Mankapur’s long-awaited district hospital remains incomplete, leaving citizens waiting for the healthcare facility they were promised years ago.
