Controversy marred the ongoing state-level boxing championship in Koradi after some female boxers from Pune alleged mismanagement and bias by the Nagpur-based organisers. However, the organisers have clarified that the issue has been resolved.
The boxers claimed that all the authorised personnel for the championship were from Nagpur. “While it’s a state-level championship, all the key staff members are from Nagpur. No one from Pune, Jalgaon, or any other district is part of the authorised team. This is a blatant attempt to favour some influential individuals’ daughters and qualify them for the nationals,” said one of the boxers.
She further alleged that some banned officials were supervising the event, which violates the rules.
Responding to the allegations, Manoj Pingle, who is supervising the championship, stated that the issue arose after two teams from Pune arrived for the competition. “We could only enroll one team. To resolve the matter, we registered one team under Pune and the other under a different name. The issue has been settled, and all boxers are now participating in their matches,” he said.
