From April 1, motorists in Maharashtra must use Fast Tag or e-Tag for toll payments, or they will be charged double, as per the state government’s latest directive.
Issued on Friday, the rule applies to toll plazas on roads built under public-private partnerships, ensuring a seamless toll collection process. Motorists using cash or other payment methods will face twice the regular toll fee.
Currently, Fast Tag-based toll payments are mandatory only on national highways. On state highways, motorists can still use cash, smart cards, PoS systems, credit/debit cards, or QR codes to pay tolls.
