Kargil, March 15 – An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Ladakh’s Kargil in the early hours of Friday, with tremors felt across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).
The quake struck at 2:50 AM at a depth of 15 km, causing mild tremors that prompted many residents in Jammu and Srinagar to report their experiences on social media.
High-Risk Seismic Zone
Both Leh and Ladakh lie in Seismic Zone IV, categorizing them as regions highly vulnerable to earthquakes. Being part of the tectonically active Himalayan region, these areas frequently experience tremors, raising concerns over seismic activity and disaster preparedness.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, although no immediate damage or casualties have been reported
