New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has unveiled the syllabus for Class 10 and Class 12 for the academic year 2025-26, introducing significant changes in the examination process. The revised curriculum outlines academic content, learning outcomes, and an updated framework for the CBSE Board Exams 2026.
Major Changes in CBSE Class 10 Board Exams
In a major shift, CBSE has announced that Class 10 students will now have the opportunity to appear for two board exams annually, scheduled for February and April, starting from the 2025-26 academic session.
The Class 10 board exams will follow a 9-point grading system, with each subject carrying 80 marks, complemented by a 20-mark internal assessment. To pass, students must secure a minimum of 33% in each subject.
Students will also have the option to select one skill-based subject from Computer Application (Code 165), Information Technology (Code 402), or Artificial Intelligence (Code 417). Additionally, they must choose either English or Hindi as a compulsory language for Class 9 and 10.
In case a student fails in core subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, or a language paper, but passes in a skill-based or optional language subject, the failed subject will be replaced by the qualified skill or language subject for result calculation.
Class 12 Exams to Continue Annually, New Electives Introduced
Unlike Class 10, the CBSE Class 12 board exams will continue to be held once a year. The exams for the 2026 session will commence on February 17, with nearly 20 lakh students expected to appear.
The Class 12 curriculum will also be evaluated using the 9-point grading scale. Additionally, CBSE has introduced four new skill electives:
- Land Transportation Associate
- Electronics and Hardware
- Physical Activity Trainer
- Design Thinking and Innovation
For subjects such as Informatics Practices (Code 065), Computer Science (Code 083), and Information Technology (Code 802), students can opt for only one subject.
The Class 12 syllabus will continue to cover seven major learning areas: Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health & Physical Education.
