To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G. B. Shankwalkar, pioneer periodontist and former Dean of Government Dental College, Nagpur, National Oral Hygiene Day was celebrated at the institution on 1st August 2025. This significant day is observed annually with a focus on prioritizing patient oral care.
In the morning session, patients visiting the OPD were educated on oral hygiene awareness and maintenance. An oral hygiene maintenance kit was distributed to patients and beneficiaries undergoing dental treatment.
In the afternoon session, Dr. Tushar Shrirao, President of the Indian Society of Periodontology, Nagpur, inaugurated the program. Sharing the dais were Dr. Mangesh Phadnaik, Dean, GDCH Nagpur; Dr. Vaibhav Karemore, Secretary, ISP Nagpur; and Dr. Manjusha Warhadpande, Vice Dean.
Dr. Phadnaik delivered the welcome address, and Dr. Shrirao, as Chief Guest and Speaker, gave an insightful talk on patient counselling and periodontal treatment protocols. The event was attended by all students and faculty members of the institution.
Dr. Vivek Thombre, Dr. Kalpak Peter, Dr. Pallavi Sonpimpale, Dr. Jyoti Khade, and Dr. Vivek Bhesaniya played key roles in ensuring the success of the program. The event was conducted by Dr. Humaira Siddique, and Dr. Pallavi Sonpimpale proposed the vote of thanks.
